The frame is the whole idea

A kiss-lock frame is two curved metal halves joined by a hinge at each side, held shut by the shape of the curve rather than by a catch or a spring. Squeeze the two knobs at the top, the halves swing apart, and when you let go they come back together and stay there. That is the reason there is no zip to jam, no button to line up and no gap at the end for a coin to work its way out. The frame here runs the full width of the opening and stands slightly proud of the fabric, so the mouth keeps its shape even when the purse is empty. The antique brass finish is what gives it the period look, and the print carries around the sides as well as across the front, so it does not look like a plain bag with a picture stuck on one face.
